I thought Office 2007 was easier on the clock cycles than 2003, I mean I may of been in a unique situation where my Outlook had slowed down greatly for no reason over the years, 2007 seems to be quicker...for now!!

As for the other Office products I think there actually really easy on memory given the fancy schmancy fading and what not, I'm more annoyed at the fact that Visio, Outlook and Project haven't undergone the same aesthetic improvements as Word, Powerpoint, Access etc

Hello All.  This is David Silverlight, the one guilty of creating the phony news story about SQL Server 2000 support being dropped.  The background of this newspaper article is a bit of a funny story, IMHO, and I will blog about it myself very soon on my own site.  In short, I had a meeting the other day discussing/debating whether we should upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on the production server.  Naturally, I was all in favor of upgrading.  It seems to me that the easy way to make my case would be simply to run down the extensive list of product enhancements.  That would work, I am sure, but I came up with a way to add a little ooomph to better support my argument.  Using a newspaper generation site that I came across, I was able to create a realistic sounding story showing that SQL Server 2000 support will end on June 1st 2006 (the day prior to the meeting).  After all, if the current version is no longer supported, it is a very compelling reason to upgrade.  My other article shows that SQL Server 2005 is 100,000 times faster than the previous version.  Hey, that is another great reason for upgrading too!!!  In the meeting, there was really one person who was not in favor of upgrading and I even quoted him in the article as saying, "SQL Server 2005 is my first choice for a database platform".  I am not sure that he liked being quoted on something that contradicts the reason for his meeting. I also doubt that the president of the company liked being quoted as saying that "he would fire anybody who did not upgrade to SQL 2005". Hopefully, he won't see this blog.  In the end, we all had a big laugh about it and the levity that it added to the meeting made it go quite smoothly.

I'm SO with you on the thread affinity for debugging.  There's nothing more frustrating than hitting F11 and finding you've just switched to another thread and different breakpoint.  I don't care if I need to read tea leaves and drop chicken bones to help some under-the-covers debugger voodoo - just give me a debugger experience that lets me step through code while I'm simulating production load/environment.

Hey wally,

Enjoyed the podcast!

When you dynamically load an assembly in a web service, does the assembly stay in memory after the call is completed?  I am hoping it works similar to the cache, where one user has the overhead of loading the assembly.

The book of 50 worst jobs mentions the job of Saddam Hussein Double, which reminds me of a joke that is obviously dated right now....
"One day after a bombing, one of Saddam's High Officials made an announcement at a meeting with 50 of Saddam's doubles.  He announced that there was good news and bad news.  The good news was that Saddam was still alive ("cheers from the room").  The bad news was that he was missing an arm.

Wally,

Chris from Raleigh here (remember ATL code camp).  Anyway, about adsense there are several things that come into play, site layout, how targeted you are and the types of ads that you choose to display.  On top of that Google has decided to mess with a good thing this week bu introducing the Quality landing page into their pricing algo for advertisers.  As best as I can surmise what it reallly means is that if you are spending 7 figures a month advertising for us, go away.  For apublisher like you and me that means fewer ads to display on the site.  This affected my FindMyGolfCourse.com site so much I had to change to Yahoo Publisher system this week.
As far as effective ads, the 300xYYY ads generate the best click thru-rates.  Also the ad at the top of your MoreWally.com layout is not placed very well, it needs to be above the title of your article or just below it.  Finally ads on the left-hand side tend to do better than the right-hand side.  Also make them blend into your site layout, so a soft green for the ad title and link would work well for you.

I hope this helps you out.  Keep up the good work!

I am not surprised about the failure of Air America Radio when you consider what the mainstream democrats represent.  Each time I voted in presidential elections, I voted for the candidate that I believed had more moral character.  Why can’t the democrats support a presidential candidate that does not talk out of both sides of his/her mouth and other orifices?  Why must they support the extreme left which is out of touch with reality and mainstream America?  One can say the same for the far right!

Of course you know nothing about me and can only form your opinion based upon my comments, but let me say what I m not.  I am not a fundamentalist Christian and am I not of the far right or left.  I am a Christian who believes that the far left and far right have some good qualities and ideas, but also believes that both extremes are out of touch with reality.

If Joe Lieberman was to run in the 2008 presidential elections, I am fairly certain I would vote for him.  Of the list of potential democratic presidential candidates for 2008, one has to wonder what planet the democrats inhabit.

As for Air America Radio, they are no different than the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and the mainstream media.  It is good to see them falter.  It tells me there is some hope that America will not go the way of the Roman Empire where moral decay led to its demise.

The question then becomes how do you find out for what your audience values you for?

The benefit of Socialized Medicine is that everyone can receive care for catastophic illness/injury. You're correct in saying that the socialized health care is not free, the cost shared by everyone through their taxes. But, because it's shared, everyone pays an amount they can afford and everyone can participate.

I'm a Canadian, so I can tell you from experience that there are lot's of issues with socialized health care. But at least I know that if I get into a bad car accident, develop cancer, or have a heart attack, that I can go to any hospital in the country and receive treatment without having to worry about insurance or the costs involved.

You may want to check VisualSVN http://www.visualsvn.com/ to integrate with Visual Studio. We have been using TortoiseSVN for a while but in my team the developers really want the integration I tried Ankhsvn but you need to make some changes to work with web projects http://ankhsvn.tigris.org/ (free works well besides that).

Since we install VisualSVN we have no issues, it works and works and works, I didn't tested in VS 2008 yet but in the site It said that it works with it.

Sorry this sound that and add but I'm really happy with the product and my team is happy as well.

Thanks for the clarification regarding the warning CS0618: 'System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.JavaScriptSerializer()' is obsolete: 'The recommended alternative is System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractJsonSerializer.'

The thing that is confusing to me and seems a bit buggy when I open the AjaxControlKit.dll version  3.0.11119.0 project, the DataContractJsonSerializer is located in the System.Runtime.Serialization.Json namespace (System.ServiceModel.Web.dll).  So it seems like the error references the wrong namespace?  How does that work?  Is it an issue with the way VS 2008 generates warnings?  Bad meta-data somewhere?

Well, at least it avoids DLL hell :)

Seriously, I understand the desire to reduce program footprint but unless Apple allows a way for a "supplier" to have a dll shareable (I am sure the hackers have found a way), then we go back to old days where all libraries were included in the executable.

Hello

I have purchased the book and also downloaded the sample code.

But the examples given in the book on the Twitter Search do not seem to reflect in the code.

E.g. when you change the Table view to accommodate multiple columns is not in the source code.

Can you post the latest source code please?

Hi.  Going through the book an came across a problem on page 30-Debugging section.  I changed:

Button button = FindViewById<Button>(Resource.Id.MyButton); to

TextView button = FindViewById<TextView>(Resource.Id.MyButton);

No exception, program runs fine.  Any suggestions?
