I was reading slashdot this week. Amazon, A9, and Jeff Bezos applied for a patent on a feature to send customized error pages back to a web browser in August 5, 2003. The specifics are in the link. Now, this is about more than just sending back a customized 404 page. This is about sending back data with an attempt to show the user what they originally wanted based on what they were trying to find. This sounds like a cool idea, however, it is hardly orginal. In 2000, I wrote a feature in a web based application to do this. Given an error in typing on a url, I would to display information that we thought that the user was attempting to find. Honestly, this is hardly an original idea. I also feel like I did not come up with the idea first.
