Visual Studio 2008 - Sunday November 4, 2007

eWeek.com review

**I am going to go against one of my basic rules with this part of the post**

I recently read Justin Vandegrift's review of Visual Studio 2008.  After reading the review, I have to ask if Justin does development today or if he is stuck supporting 15 year old applications?  The review reads as if all he cares about is C++ support.  No where in the article does he mention Javascript debugging.  For me that is the singular feature that makes the product worth every cent.  The only comment about ASP.NET development is:

Web development is an area that has received considerable attention in Orcas, with ASP.Net Web Applications, ASP.Net AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) Server Control and ASP.Net Web Service Applications all readily accessible for quick deployment from the Web palette of project templates. Web development is also a topic explored at length in Microsoft's white paper.

Its really poor that the article was nothing more than a cynic's view of one of Microsoft's overview document.  There are several factual inaccuracies in the article.  It was disappointed to read the poor article. This review really supports my statement that eWeek/PCWeek has slipped and is a poor magazine and web site.

**OK, rules are back on.**
