Why does Apple get a free ride?

As I sit here and encode the latest podcast video, I openly have to ask myself "Why does Apple get a free ride?"  Let's look at our podcast.  We present audios and videos on the development of applications in .NET.  Of the podcatchers that are used to download our presentations, the Apple iTunes is one of several popular ones.  Have you ever tried to download a wmv file in a podcast's rss feed with iTunes?  Well, the answer is, you can't.  WMV files play on the Mac, but Apple iTunes won't do the download.  As a result, I have to encode video files so that they are downloadable through iTunes.  That means encoding them for mp4 or mov file formats.  What a pain this is.  Microsoft gets beaten on everytime they turn around for not supporting every format out there.  Where is the outrage against Apple iTunes?  Well, you won't hear it.  Why?  Apple doesn't have Microsoft's operating system share, thus, Apple gets a free ride.
