I like his list. I have been pretty good about using them. Another trick that I use is to minimize "strange" pieces of code. If I have something that will be spread out over my code and I am not 100% comfortable with it, I will typically encapsulate it within a private method and then call the method. That way, I only have to make one change to my code instead of 10s or 100s.
