Geez, the low class actions of recruiters never ceases to amaze me. I get this email last week from someone claiming to present a large software company (Guess Who). Here are the problems I have with it.
- Don't use words like "excellent, awesome, unparalleled" too many times in an email. It looks cheap.
- Tell me how you found me. How did you get my private email address?
- Act like you have done your research on who I am and what I am doing. Have you noted that I have written some books? Is my writing in the area that you are interested in?
- If your email address is from a company that you are not an employee of, then state that you are representing them as a headhunter. Don't just launch into a sales job. You have alread lost my respect by not stating why your email address is not from the previously mentioned large software company. This especially true as I have read the blogs of the recruiters at this large software company.
- Ask yourself this burning question: If I write code, why would I go to a support group?
- If I run a consulting company, what is the advantage of my quiting?
- Are you going to offer me more money? Hardly, as I have always found big companies try to oversell this safety concept.
- Why should I move? Can you offer me any of the perks that I currently have?
Now, I am not a recruiter, but this is how it feels when you just blindly launch into an email when I expect someone on the other side to be more polished.
This are just a few of the problems that I have with this latest email. Hopefully, you won't repeat its mistakes.
